Suffering from dry skin?
Like so dry that my whole face would be rough patches and my makeup would constantly be flaking off. No matter how much I exfoliated or lathered on face creams nothing seemed to help.
Maybe I was just living under a rock during my youth but I do not remember facial oils being as prevalent growing up, or maybe in my naivete I assumed throwing oil on my face would just lead to pimples. Now I feel every company has some form of facial oil that they offer, and I’ve tried a few, some are definitely better then others.
Also let me also state that as I grew out of my teen years I realized that the secret to the appearance of perfect makeup was good skin underneath. Counter-intuitive right? In order for your makeup to look good, your skin has to look good.
Regardless I learned that I needed to deal with my rough patches instead of just hiding my imperfections under high coverage makeup. This leads me to facial oils, like I said I tried heavy duty exfoliating and thick facial moisturizers and those would only make my skin look good and feel hydrated that day and then I would need to repeat the process the following day. I ended up being over exfoliated and I really was just damaging my skin at that point. Ever since I have incorporated facial oils into my morning and night routine I have seen a dramatic difference. I do not remember the last time I had rough patches on my skin or the last time I had to use a heavy duty exfoliant.
My makeup is applying better then ever and my face has become so dewy I have to powder it down in some spots, which if you have very dry skin that is unheard of. My skin has done a 180 and it is all thanks to facial oils. Now I am not saying this is a miracle cure to dry skin, this worked for me and it may work for you, if you do have dry skin to very dry skin and have not tried facial oils it may be something you want to add to your shopping list. Below I listed the ones I personally use daily that I can not praise enough.
Do you have a holy grail facial oil? Let me know in the comments below!
This has easily become a staple in my morning and night routine. This product is what made me fall in love with facial oils. For starters my favorite thing about this product is that no additional fragrance has been added, there is a scent but not a strong or overpowering scent. I am very sensitive to smells so it is important to me that my products do not have a strong scent.
The product description on revolve.com is as follows:
“Deep moisture meets flash absorption in this skin calming and seriously hydrating blend of soothing, Omega-rich Hemp Seed Oil and environmental stress defending Adaptogens. Formulated with Squalane, Meadowfoam Seed Oil, and Borage Seed Oil, this lightweight oil delivers skin-calming moisture for an addiction-worthy glow.”
Their description is so true, this product is extremely light weight which is the first thing I noticed with the tester in Sephora. It absorbs quickly into the skin without leaving a greasy layer which I noticed in some lower end facial oils. Which brings me to the cost, this oil is not cheap, but a little goes a long way and if a product is going on your face you want to be sure the quality is good which usually means higher cost.
Like I mentioned above due to my skin I began over exfoliating, for some reason I thought that harsher the exfoliant the better the results, which is not true at all and is extremely damaging to the skin. I picked up the PRISM Exfoliating Glow Potion on a whim at Sephora. I thought what could it hurt, if it actually exfoliated my skin without me having to harshly scrub my face that would be fantastic. IT WORKS, let me tell you, I place 3 drops of this product and follow it up with 3 drops of the Emerald Facial Oil and my skin has never looked better.
This product is such a light exfoliant you do not even feel it, but give it a week and you will see a drastic difference in your overall skin tone and feel. Herbivore.com describes this product as follows:
A super lightweight serum featuring a rainbow of natural fruit acids and botanicals extracts to exfoliate, hydrate, even appearance of skin tone, smooth + clarify. For your best skin yet, naturally.
You will find the following ingredients within the product:
Fruit Acids: Bilberry Lactic, Sugar Cane Glycolic, Orange Peel Citric and Apple Malic Acid pair with Vitamin C-rich Kakadu Plum make up our rainbow of fruit acids. These natural alpha-hydroxy acids (AHA’s) gently brighten and clarify skin.
Rose Water, Aloe Water, and plant-derived vegan Sodium Hyaluronate combine to soothe appearance of redness, visibly plump and hydrate dry skin.
Not only are these derived from natural ingredients, they work. These truly are staples in my collection and I do not think I could go a day without these. I apply both oils in the morning before I apply my makeup, I usually wait about 5 minutes before applying makeup to insure I have given the products enough time to soak into my face.
Then at night I wash my face with the Tatcha Pure One Step Camellia Oil Cleanser, which if you are on the search for a gentle yet efficient cleanser be sure to check this one out. Then I apply another 3 drops of each and head off to bed. The combination of these two products have been a game changer for me and my extremely dry skin, I can not recommend them enough!
